Hey Tennis Freaks!
Winter tennis builds grit. But spring builds opportunity.
Outdoor courts across Canada will be opening soon.
The question is not:
Are you playing?
The question is:
Will you be ready?
This week is about preparing now so you feel sharp when the weather turns.
Let’s break it down.
🧠 R — REP
Before outdoor match play ramps up, sharpen your volleys.
Three simple drills that matter more than you think:
Paint the Line
Soft rally aiming right on the line.
Clean contact. Clear intention.
Touch the Tape
Stand close to the net and tap lightly trying to hit the tape.
Pure control work.
Angle Battle
Crosscourt rally. See how sharp you can go.
Builds geometry awareness for outdoor points.
Outdoor tennis punishes sloppy contact.
Now is the time to clean it up.
🎯 A — ADJUSTMENT
Cold weather taught us something.
When temps drop:
• Strings stiffen
• Balls feel heavier
• Your body moves slower
As we move toward spring, now is the time to reset.
Three adjustments before outdoor season:
Recheck your tension
If you lowered 2–3 lbs for winter, decide if you’re bringing it back up or staying there.
Extend your warm up
15–20 minutes of dynamic movement. Outdoors means more wind, more movement, longer points.
Start training in lighter layers
Outdoor tennis demands more footwork and endurance.
Spring rewards players who prepare early.
🎾 L — LESSON
We saw a simple pattern this week from Anton who learned this from Gael Monfils.
Pull the opponent outside the tram lines.
Stay patient.
Then go down the line.
Outdoor tennis requires more patience.
More wind.
More movement.
More angles.
The players with more patience win more points.
Do not rush offense.
Earn it.
📸 L — LIFE
Spring is busy.
Tournaments.
Practices.
Travel.
Schedules filling fast.
But here is a reminder:
Do not let youth sports control your family life.
Sport should be part of family identity.
Not the thing that defines it.
When outdoor season ramps up, protect:
• Balance
• Perspective
• Fun
Development is long term.
One tournament does not define anything.
👉 Y — YOUR MOVE
Before outdoor courts open:
• Check your tension
• Commit to one racquet setup
• Add 10 extra minutes of warm up
• Practice one simple pattern
And if you feel unsure about your setup, tournament plan, or long term path, we’re opening up something new.
